I am known for coming up with lots of resolutions for the New Year. I kind of feel compelled to put a list together around this time of the year. It is almost as if I needed to create a road map that will help me accomplish all the things I need (or want) to do. It has worked for me to some extent. When I look back at the list I created last year, I can see I did a lot of the things I had planned. It gives me that sense of accomplishment. However, I also believe that creating a list of things you need (or want) to do is also very limiting. I kind of stick to the things I have on the list and I don’t give myself the opportunity to do other things. The list takes away the freedom and creativity from the process.
This year I am going to do things differently. I only have one resolution for the New Year. I am going to be more aware. Being more aware means that I will be paying more attention to the things I would like to do. It will give me the opportunity to change things on the fly, try new things and experiment more. So, instead of planning ahead, I will try to be more conscious of the things I would like to do. I will pay more attention to my body, mind and heart and they will tell me how to proceed. Being more aware means you are present and when you are present, you know what to do. This will be a big change for me. I am used to planning ahead and I have done this my whole life. I am also good at it. But if the goal for 2010 is to be more aware, I might as well start now. My awareness tells me that I need something different this time around. Something that will help me develop my creative side, push me a little more, expose me a little more. I am willing to take the risk and I am sure 2010 will be an amazing year!
